Recap of 2012 MIT Sloan CFO Summit

Posted by Steve Drew, Recruiting Manager with KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting

Over the last 4 years, I have had the privilege to be a member of the planning committee for the MIT Sloan CFO Summit. After 10 months of planning, the 10th annual MIT Sloan CFO Summit took place on November 15, 2012. The summit was held in Newton, with over 600 CFO’s and financial executives attending, making it one of the largest CFO forums in the country and the largest put on strictly by volunteers. The theme for the conference was sustaining excellence.

This year we had over 30 CFO panelists, five CFO keynote speakers and a Nobel Prize winner who provided timely and thought-provoking discourse on current and future finance, accounting and business topics. Our breakfast panel included CFOs from Sysco, Dupont, NExtEra Energy and Hasbro who led an interactive discussion on sustaining excellence in organizations. The morning panel was followed by six sessions including discussions on acquisitions, big data, “the strategic CFO” and containing healthcare costs. Several of KBW's clients were represented on the CFO panels while many other senior financial executives from clients of KBW attended.

The educational part of the day was capped off with an interview of Keith Sherin, Vice Chairman & CFO, General Electric by the Wall Street Journal, which was followed by a lively networking and cocktail hour.

We will start planning the 11th MIT Sloan CFO Summit right after the New Year. It will be held November 14, 2013 in Newton, so mark your calendars and please join us next year.
